Welcome to the Animals’ Welfare and
Protection Association
The AWPA is a registered charity association in Sri Lanka, committed to the caring of stray, abandoned and abused dogs and cats on a not-for-profit basis. The AWPA is governed by a committee of members who contribute as volunteers without any pay and support the organisation during their free time amidst their personal and professional commitments. We perform a vital service of conducting sterilisation programmes across the country, rescuing, and sheltering and rehoming these domestic street dogs and cats.
Our primary goal is to find responsible, forever homes for these dogs and cats. Our overarching policy is that sterilisations are the only humane solution to reduce the population of unwanted dogs and cats who end up on the streets. We rely on the generosity of the public and the kindness of animal lovers for volunteers and donations.
All donations are given a receipt as we are a registered charity and our accounts are audited and circulated annually among our members.
Transforming Lives, One Paw at a Time: Where Compassion Meets Community for Rescued Street Dogs and Cats! Please help us rehome these beautiful puppies, available to a kind home.

How You Can Help
ADOPTION
SPONSOR A DOG OR CAT
GET INVOLVED
First, we speak to the, prospective owner, and assess if a dog or cat selected by the adoptee would suit them, possibly followed by a visit to their home to assess the suitability of their surroundings. Once we find a perfect match between the prospective owner and the available cats, dogs, puppies and kittens, we will proceed with the adoption. We do not charge any fees for our services, but donations are voluntary and always welcome.
Well, the next best option to adopting a dog or cat, is to sponsor a shelter dog or a cat, one who has not been adopted and lives at our shelter.
This way, the animal population in the area would be controlled while providing a conducive environment for healthier, rabies free animals to coexist with human beings. We can help with the vet bills for these sterilisations. Click here for more details.
